Over the past two years, Oasis for Orphans has been raising funds to purchase land and build a family-style children’s home in southwest Kenya to serve more children. Oasis has asked us to join them as missionaries to oversee the construction of the project and work to set up The Shelter, the newest children’s home.
This past year has been a blessing but has also had some challenges. We were able to celebrate both of our children graduating from college and watch them enter into their own new life adventures. We are so excited to see what God has in store for them. Then, this past August, Bob’s company went through a reorganization, and he was relieved of his position of 29 years. Since then, we have been seeking God and praying for His direction in this next season of life.
In 2009 Deb took her first of several mission trips to Kenya, Africa. On that very first trip Deb fell in love with the children and people of Kenya and left part of her heart there. Each time she returned she felt unsettled until her next trip was planned. That same enthusiasm transferred to Bob after his first trip to Kenya in 2010. Even now, several months into the process, we feel so blessed to see God’s hand continue to put the puzzle pieces together bringing life to this dream of us serving God in Africa.
As we step into this adventure, we are committing to a two-year term with the option for further involvement if God leads us. We feel incredibly privileged to be a part of the Oasis team and their efforts to rescue and develop orphaned children in southwest Kenya. The need is great, and our efforts are critical to Oasis’s success in providing the family-style environment that will bring stability to these precious children.
Bob is the project manager for The Shelter building project and will be supporting some Oasis technology efforts as well. Deb is part of the support team organizing the Oasis short-term missions program. Deb will also be involved with developing the training program for Kenyan Mamas serving at The Shelter, and will be networking in the area to develop local resources.
In order for Oasis to be able to focus their finances solely on the children, we are committed to raising our own support. We are trusting and believing that God will put people in our lives who will partner with us in prayer and finances during our journey. We want to invite you to be a critical part of our support team. Both financial gifts and prayer are so appreciated. Financial gifts are tax-deductible.
You can contact us through email or by cell phone. We will be blogging regularly and sending out updates and prayer requests.
